ICC & Eurojust
The International Criminal Court (ICC)
and Eurojust have found a temporary accommodation in the Arc in The
Hague.
On the 1st of July 2002, the
ICC has opened its doors. A team of eight people is accepting and
registering possible evidence of war crimes properly until prosecutors,
judges and registrars are appointed coming year. After the period of
this so-called “P.O.-box function” the staff of the ICC will increase to
approximately one hundred people. As the host country of the ICC, the
Netherlands have the responsibility to facilitate the accommodation of
the ICC. In 2007, the ICC will be getting its permanent accommodation in
a still to be designed building nearby the grounds of the
Alexanderkazerne in The Hague.
Next to the ICC another
new organisation, Eurojust, is being set up in The Hague. Eurojust aims
to smooth the way and to help co-ordinate the investigation and
prosecution of serious cross-border crime within the EU.
At first there will be
about twenty employees, however this may increase to approximately
eighty employees within a year.
At the European Summit in Laken of December 2001, the Netherlands were
appointed the temporary accomodation of Eurojust.
The Hague welcomes these
important institutes with great pleasure!

Forensic Science
Experts Centre
The Forensic Science Experts
Centre (FSEC) was established in Amsterdam in March 2002 in response to
an increasing need by defence teams for forensic scientific expertise in
national and international criminal cases as well as to counterbalance
the governmental forensic apparatus. As an independent, non government
bound, scientific institute the FSEC tends towards high quality
scientific advice for both private individuals as (semi) governmental
organs. The FSEC also aims to an academic level by organizing and
participating to symposia, publishing scientific papers and stimulating
and initiating scientific research. As a multidisciplinary pioneer the
FSEC will initiate fusions such as neurobiology with international
military law, and demographic research with international criminal law.
